Help from Russia: Venezuela receives 8.5 tons of medical supplies

06.04.2018, Caracas.

More than 300 boxes containing medical supplies have been given to Venezuela’s hospitals by the Russian Federation. Information on this was published on the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) website on April 6.

“314 boxes with more than 8.5 tons medicines and supplies are being distributed to 10 hospitals that have been prioritised by PAHO and the Venezuela Ministry of Health (MPPS) [Ministerio del Poder Popular para la Salud] in their technical cooperation framework. The aforementioned hospitals are located in eight states of the country: Aragua, Bolivar, Caraboro, Capital District, Lara, Merida, Sucre and Zulia” – the PAHO document reports.

As a result of the rising political and economic pressure from the US and its allies, as well as the reduction of export potential due to falling oil prices, Venezuela goes through a difficult social and economic state. It manifests itself through hyperinflation and devaluation of the national currency and is aggravated by the shortage of medical supplies in health institutions.
