22.11.2017, Russia.

The United States has once again blocked a UN Security Council resolution proposed by Russia, that condemns the shelling of the Russian Embassy in Syria, the Press Secretary of Russia’s UN Mission Fyodor Strzhizhovsky stated, TASS reports.

The diplomat said that this is not the first time U.S. leaders have used double standards regarding terrorist acts against Russian representative institutions. He also advised his American colleagues to show consistency in fighting against militants, which threaten the work of diplomats of different countries in the region. Strzhizhovsky said that Russia will continue to fight terrorists, and it will contribute to the establishment of peace and security in the Syrian Arab Republic.

On November 20, it was reported that the Russian Embassy in Damascus came under mortar shelling from territories controlled by terrorists. According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, no one was hurt in the attack. Russian diplomats expressed hope that Western colleagues in the UN Security Council would give an appropriate assessment of the terrorist act against the Russian Embassy in Syria.

Earlier, Russia repeatedly sought to adopt official press-releases issued by the UN Security Council to condemn the shelling of the Russian Embassy in Damascus. In a number of cases, Western countries blocked these attempts, insisting that provisions that Russia finds unacceptable be included.
