Syrian Army recaptures oil field near Deir ez-Zor

Thayyem oil field located near the city of Deir ez-Zor was recaptured from the militants, Syria’s military said on September 9, RIA Novosti reports citing the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The control over territories adjacent to the oilfield territories was also regained. ISIL terrorists (organization banned in Russia), who formerly controlled the oilfield, suffered heavy losses during the fighting.

From September 2014 the city of Deir ez-Zor was under siege by terrorists. On September 5, 2017, soldiers of the Republican Guard managed to break the siege, which allowed to deliver 900 tons of humanitarian aid to the city. On September 7 government forces managed to take control of a strategically important bridge over the Euphrates.
