The United States completely destroyed the principle of respect for the sovereignty of other nations, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on April 3 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
The program’s host, Anna Shafran, asked Sergey Kurginyan: will Europe follow Ukraine’s path, or could the examples of Hungary and Slovakia serve as a turning point, and Europe will movе toward healthy sovereignty?
In response, the political scientist noted that Hungary and Slovakia are small countries that make up something larger. He also emphasized the general concept of sovereignty, touching on its historical aspect.
“You see, the concept of these sovereign states goes back to the so-called Westphalian system and what was then constructed as the principle of the nation state: the goal was to end these religious wars, to marginalize the religious factor to some extent, because otherwise Protestants and Catholics would slaughter each other. So, everyone agreed on some kind of structure,” he explained.
At the same time, the leader of the Essence of Time movement emphasized that if the assassination of top officials has become possible today (in Iran or elsewhere), this means that the concept of sovereign nation states, adopted since the Westphalian system, is no longer valid.
The political scientist also noted a change in rhetoric regarding state sovereignty. Previously, it was said that the sovereignty of countries, their right to determine their own destiny, was appropriate. However, Kurginyan clarified that, in reality, this has never been the case, and “attempts to build any rhetorical constructs around this principle have always been speculative.” However, now, the principle of respect for sovereignty has been abandoned even in rhetoric, the political scientist emphasized.
“Now, Trump and his colleagues use an original approach, which, in fact, destroys the rhetorical construct of these sovereignties. They define their new position simply: ‘Heel!’, ‘This is mine,’ ‘Force is what matters,’ ‘Stop talking about all this sovereignty and all that other stuff.’ This zone of influence is ours, the other one is not; this is our backyard, this is not …,” he said.
In reality, this has always been precisely the case, but it has never been spoken about with such directness as Washington is now doing, which “has begun to spout the truth with unprecedented frankness, reaching a certain state of insanity,” Kurginyan clarified.
