Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science: Interest in relocating to Russia is growing among scientists

Even among scientists from unfriendly countries, interest in relocating to Russia for permanent residence has grown, Valery Falkov, head of the Ministry of Education and Science, said at a meeting of the program commission of the “United Russia” party on November 1.

There is an increased interest nowadays on the part of the world’s leading scientists to relocate to Russia for permanent residence, even though we have tightened the requirements under such a program”, Falkov said, speaking at the commission’s meeting.

He noted that recently a condition was introduced that from the second year a participant of the program should relocate to Russia for permanent residence. At the same time, the amount of the grant was raised to 1 million Euros per year.

Falkov emphasized that there is interest from scientists from all over the world: “This year’s contests have shown a huge interest from our compatriots abroad and foreign scientists, even from unfriendly countries.

He added that at the same time there is a program to upgrade scientific equipment. It is envisaged to allocate 170 million Euros and annual allocation of another 100 million Euros is being discussed.

On June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at a meeting of the Council on Science and Education in Dubna the expansion of the megagrant program aimed at attracting leading specialists from around the world.
