Czech President: Europe will have to come to terms with unfavorable situation in Ukraine

19.12.2023, Prague.

The situation in Ukraine will change significantly in 2024, but the European Union will not like it, Czech President Petr Pavel said, the online news portal Seznam Správy informed on December 19.

He said that if current trends in the conflict in Ukraine continue, there will be “significant progress next year.” However, “it will happen not exactly in the best sense of the word” from the point of view of the Europeans, Pavel said.

He explained that the victory of former US leader Donald Trump in the US presidential election and the re-election of Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2024 could lead to Russia regaining its “status as a key player.”

And this will apply not only to the situation in Ukraine, but also to the whole world, the Czech leader added.

He emphasized that the new situation would be “disadvantageous for Europe”, but the EU countries “will have to come to terms with it.”
