The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed units Valeriy Zaluzhny requested 17 million rounds and $350-400 billion from US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to draw Russian troops out of the territory that Kiev considers its own, the Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper wrote on December 4.
It cited an anonymous source familiar with the content of the talks between Zaluzhny and Austin, who visited Kiev.
“They voiced the need for 17 million rounds to Austin. He was, to put it mildly, surprised, because so many rounds are not available in the whole world,” the publication quoted the source as saying.
The Ukrainian commander-in-chief also complained to Austin about the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who “interferes in the management of the troops.” Zelensky himself learned about the content of the military conversation and it does not contribute to his trust in Zaluzhny.
On December 2, Austin said that the United States has seriously increased funding for the production of shells. He noted that it was caused by the large amount of aid supplied to Ukraine.
