Putin: If it were not for the events in Ukraine, Russia would not be acting the way it is now

03.11.2023, Moscow.

If the Nazis did not rise to power in Ukraine, Russia would not have had to act the way it does, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with members of the Public Chamber on November 3.

The coup d’état in Ukraine and the Nazis’ rise to power there led to what has been called the “Crimean Spring” and the events in Donbass, the president said. Otherwise, no one would act the way Russia is acting now.

Putin emphasized that now it is extremely important to make joining new territories to Russia smooth and natural.

The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics asked Russia for help in repelling aggression by the Ukrainian armed units to avoid civilian casualties and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

The Ukrainian armed units conducted shelling of residential areas of the cities of the republics. Infrastructure facilities were damaged. For example, the water supply system in Donetsk was partially disrupted.

The republics began evacuating the civilian population to the territory of Russia. In February 2022, Russia recognized the independence of the republics and soon launched a military operation against the armed forces of Ukraine.
