Putin: Ukrainian crisis started because of the West’s desire to maintain hegemony

24.08.2023, Moscow.

The reason for the start of the crisis in Ukraine is the West’s desire to maintain its dominance in the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the 15th BRICS summit on August 23.

“I would like to note that it was the desire to preserve its hegemony in the world, the desire of some countries to preserve this hegemony that led to the grave crisis in Ukraine,” Putin said.

He emphasized that it was with the participation of the West that an unconstitutional coup d’état took place in Kiev in 2014. As a result, the new authorities unleashed a “war of extermination” against the part of the population that did not agree with the anti-constitutional actions of the rebels.
