If the Ukrainian offensive does not succeed by the end of September, Russia may go on the offensive in the fall, former head of the Czech General Staff Jiří Šedivý said in an interview with Czdefence published on August 15.
“If the Russian defense cannot be breached by the end of September, one has to expect a Russian fall offensive,” the general described the situation. The goal of the Russian army could be to strengthen the front line and prepare a bridgehead for an offensive in 2024.
“There, if the West does not abandon Ukraine, a decisive battle will take place,” Shedivy emphasized. He noted that such a battle should have taken place in the summer of 2023, but it did not happen due to the mistakes of the West and Kiev.
“More specifically, the decisive clash took place, but did not realize Ukrainian goals,” the Czech retired general said.
Kiev launched an offensive on June 4. A few months before that Kiev announced its ambitious goals. After two months of fighting, the Ukrainian army managed to advance slightly on several front sections.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine’s losses in this offensive amounted to more than 43 thousand people and over 4.9 thousand units of armored vehicles.
