Kurginyan: Russia will have to take a position in a conflict in Transcaucasia

09.08.2023, Aleksandrovskoye.

Sooner or later, the escalation of the situation in Transcaucasia will result in a conflict between Turkey and Iran, and Russia will have to take a position in it, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on July 25 in a new issue of his original broadcast Destiny.

The political scientist referred to a detailed article by International Advisor to the supreme leader of Iran Ali Akbar Velayati, in which he warns the Russian government about processes of concern in Transcaucasia. According to the Iranian politician, these processes directly affect Russia’s and Iran’s security and interests.

If our Russian friends neglect this [their policy in Caucasus] the USA and their agents, who have failed to do anything significant in Ukraine, will escalate the factors of tension in the very sensitive region of Southern Caucasus, and they will undermine the security of the entire region,Velayati writes in his article.

The leader of the Essence of Time movement stressed that Russia cannot pursue any active policy in Transcaucasia as long as the active conflict is Ukraine is ongoing; however, complicated conflicts in the Islamic world must not be completely ignored either.

Kurginyan reminded about his own experience of talks with the mentioned Iranian politician regarding the unity of the Islamic world towards the conflict in Syria.

I dared to ask what was taking place in Syria then. Why do the Iranian supporters of the unity of the Islamic world support [President of Syria] al-Assad and certain Alawi parts of this Islamic world, which are problematic to the most part of the Islamic world, but not the great Sunni movement? the political scientist told.

Kurginyan noted that the split in the Islamic world ascends to much more fundamental religious issues between Shia and Sunni, and these conflicts are not only subject to narrow religious disputes, but they have quite a real social effect in the Islamic world.

Later I attended certain events held by radical Iranian and international Islamic young people, and every time Ahmadinejad, then president, condemned Zionism the audience cried in admiration and shook in outbursts of rage. But every time Ahmadinejad mentioned Mahdi, the Islamic subject of the Second Coming, the audience kept cold silence. Because it is not united in this issue,” the political scientist stressed.

Explaining this examples Kurginyan noted that sooner or later an escalation in Transcaucasia will awaken a very old conflict between Iran and Turkey, in which it would be a great mistake for Russia to lose Iran as an ally.
