Russian Security Council Secretary: Major terrorist organizations created by Western intelligence services

25.07.2023, Johannesburg.

Almost all contemporary major terrorist groups are created, supplied and financed by Western intelligence services, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said on July 25, speaking at a meeting of high-ranking BRICS officials in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Patrushev said that the intelligence services that created, supplied and financed almost all major contemporary terrorist groups acted in compliance with the political decisions of Western leaders.

According to Patrushev, terrorism “as it exists now is a direct tool for promoting the influence of the United States and its satellites.”

Patrushev said that Moscow considers counterterrorism cooperation as one of the priority areas of cooperation within the BRICS framework.

He said Russia opposes the “politicization of international counterterrorism cooperation and the application of double standards in this field.” According to him, the fight against terrorism should be “based on universal norms and principles of international law.”
