A drone shot down over Kursk NPP at night

An unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down at night in Kurchatov, Kursk region, regional governor Roman Starovoit said in his Telegram channel on July 14.

“There was a UAV crash in the city of Kurchatov at night. Fortunately, none of the residents were injured. Critical facilities as a result of the fall of the drone and its subsequent detonation were not damaged,” the statement reads.

An apartment building by the drone’s wreckage, the facade of the building and glazing were damaged with shrapnel, the governor said.

Residents of Kurchatov reported the sound of the explosion, which was heard in the whole city. Before the explosion, people heard a sound similar to the flight of a rocket.

Kurchatov is the third largest city in Kursk region with a population of more than 40 thousand people. It is located 37 kilometers west of Kursk and less than 30 kilometers east of Sumy. The city is home to the Kursk NPP, which consists of three operating power units with a total capacity of 3 GW.
