Russian Federal Archival Agency tells about Stalin’s denial of Poland’s claim to Western Ukraine

Joseph Stalin insistently defended the western border of the USSR along the Kerzon line, said Andrey Artizov, head of Rosarkhiv (Russian Federal Archival Agency), in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta on April 19.

He defended this position at negotiations with Roosevelt and Churchill in Teheran in 1943. And when in 1944 Stanisław Mikołajczyk, head of the Polish émigré government in London, visited Moscow and asked for Lvov to be given to Poland, Stalin refused him.

Artizov discussed a new collection of archival documents substantiating Russian President Vladimir Putin’s article “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians.”

The head of Rosarkhiv drew attention to Stalin’s role in forming Soviet Ukraine and noted that discussion of this issue requires a detailed conversation.
