Ukrainian Defence Minister discusses lowering mobilization age with the USA

18.10.2024, Kiev.

Kiev has discussed the issue of lowering the age of mobilization with the USA, said Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, the press service of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry has reported on 12 October.

Umerov said that there are sometimes discussions with the United States on this topic, as American partners want to understand why mobilization does not affect citizens between the ages of 18 and 25. Umerov emphasized that there is no pressure from the USA in this matter.

Earlier, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Sergey Leshchenko said that American politicians put pressure on President Vladimir Zelensky on the issue of mobilization. He also added that Washington hints at the need for conscription from the age of 18 because of the insufficiency of Western armaments.

Umerov noted that discussions are ongoing, but no final decisions on changing the age of conscription have been made yet.
