The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine [Ukrainian Parliament] passed the law banning the activities of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak wrote on August 20 on his Telegram channel.

“The Rada adopted as a whole the finalized bill No. 8371 on banning the activities on the territory of Ukraine of religious organizations, in particular those associated with Russia. (Popularly known as the law on banning the Moscow Church),” Zheleznyak wrote.

According to Zheleznyak, 265 MPs voted in favor of the draft law. Zheleznyak noted that the law will come into force 30 days after publication.

“Except for one point – according to it, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate’s communities will have 9 months to sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church,” the MP emphasized.
