Polish President Andrzej Duda intends to seek to strengthen the presence of NATO troops in the east and bring strategic pipelines to the eastern flank, the press service of the presidential office informed on its official Internet portal on July 4.

Duda met with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Warsaw. The main topics of the talks were security in the context of the upcoming NATO summit in Washington and support for Ukraine.

“In the context of the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, Andrzej Duda said he would seek to strengthen the presence of NATO troops on the eastern flank, as well as to increase defense spending of the Alliance member states to 3%,” the statement reads.

Duda also noted that he would push to bring the military alliance’s strategic pipelines, which currently terminate in Germany, to NATO’s eastern flank. According to the Polish president, this is necessary so that “in the event of a crisis, strategic fuel supplies for military purposes would be possible.”
