While the politics of Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, are inherently pro-Western and anti-Russian, he and his entourage do not want a war with Russia, therefore they have to maneuver, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 31 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio station.
“What does Kobakhidze say about this? What he says is that by 2030 we will have a unified, greater Georgia; that it will include South Ossetia and Abkhazia, that ‘everything will be awesome there, we will be with the West, and, in addition, we will fool the Russians by telling them that we don’t want be at war’.” “We will buy some kind of compromise from them, and then we will deceive them and merge with the West, but this will take several years,” explained Sergey Kurginyan.
The current situation is very reminiscent to what happened in the USSR in the late 80s, noted the expert. At that time, there were two main forces of power: one spoke about the Russian world; and the other advocated dealing with anti-Russian forces by surrendering the pro-Russian supporters.
Statements made by the Georgian Prime Minister actually call for Russia to abandon its interests in the Caucasus and allow Georgia to create a confederation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Kurginyan emphasized. In return – Tbilisi pledges to not to start a war.
“And I can already hear voices inside Russia that are starting to whine about this,” noted the political scientist. Such agreements with Kobakhidze would be extremely unreliable, and as a result, Russia would simply lose influence in the countries that are close to each other in spirit, emphasized the analyst.
“Kobakhidze will arrange some compromising agreements; then, hell with him, they will throw him off – and we will lose everything we have, and we will be at war, but in much worse circumstances, while gravely disappointing our real friends. This is what the Georgian game is now about,” the leader of the movement warned of the consequences.
The strategy where the interests of pro-Russian forces are surrendered to appease certain anti-Russian forces has no future, claims the political scientist.
On May 26, Kobakhidze said that Georgia will join the European Union by 2030, the Rossa Primavera News Agency reported. And he also announced plans to take control of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by that time.
