Scholz calls Putin’s peace proposal for Ukraine unserious

15.06.2024, Berlin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer of conditions for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict “was not meant seriously,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during an interview with ZDF channel on June 15.

Everyone knows that this proposal (Putin) was not meant seriously, but just somehow has to do with the peace conference in Switzerland,” Scholz commented.

At a meeting with the Russian Foreign Ministry executives on June 14, Putin called the withdrawal of Kiev’s troops from the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions a necessary condition for the start of peace talks. He said that with the fulfillment of these conditions, hostilities would immediately cease. Putin emphasized that for Russia it is necessary for Ukraine to give up its claims for NATO membership and nuclear weapons.

Also note, Switzerland is to host a conference on June 15-16, supposedly devoted to a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, but to which Russia was defiantly not invited. China and other important neutral countries also refused to participate. Thus, the format has turned into a conference of Kiev and NATO countries.
