Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has accused China of helping Russia sabotage a peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland, Politico reported on June 2.
According to Zelensky, Russia and its allies, including China, are pressuring other states to prevent their participation in the summit using threats to blockade agricultural products and raise energy prices.
During a speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore, Zelensky emphasized that 106 countries have already confirmed their participation in the summit, but Russia, backed by China, is actively trying to prevent the event from taking place.
Zelensky also expressed disappointment over Beijing’s support for Russian military efforts, despite Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s claims of non-interference in the conflict.
“We do not expect military support from China. We have never asked them to do so… But we do not expect China to provide defense support to Russia,” Zelensky said.
