The Ukrainian armed units were forced to take “more favorable positions” near the town of Volchansk, the Ukrainian General Staff said on its Telegram channel on May 14.
“To save the lives of our servicemen and avoid losses, the units made a maneuver and moved to more advantageous positions,” the statement said.
The retreat occurred “in Several areas” in the Lukyantsev and Volchansk districts because of the Russian army offensive, the Ukrainian General Staff admitted.
The Russian army launched an offensive in Kharkov Region a few days ago. In an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, a Ukrainian militant said that the town of Volchansk had not been prepared for defense.
