The people of Donbass made the right choice in the referendum and defended it in battle, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel on May 11.
She congratulated the residents of Donbas on the 10th anniversary of the referendum on the creation of people’s republics.
“Ten years have passed, and today it is obvious to everyone that the people of Donbass made the right choice then, defended it in battle, without finding help and protection from international organizations, whose mandate includes functions to protect peace and security in Europe,” Zakharova said.
It was on May 11, 2014 that the long and difficult road of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics home to Russia began, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman recalled.
“And today we remember and honor this date, honor the heroes who are no longer with us – the militias killed by Kiev terrorists, admire the courage of Donbass and do everything to ensure that the sincerity and righteousness with which the Russian Spring blossomed in May 2014, gave its sacred fruits,” she wrote.
She also emphasized that Europe, in particular the OSCE, had failed to stop the constant shelling of civilians in Donbass by Ukrainian armed units for eight years.
In addition, Zakharova reminded that the question of the future structure of the world after the military conflict must be solved. This should be a serious and complex conversation with all parties and participants.
“Switzerland is now trying to convene some pseudo-peace conference, as if it does not realize that this is not a car show, but an incredibly complex conversation about the future world order,” said Zakharova.
