German political scientist Johannes Varwick, a professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, predicted Ukraine’s imminent defeat and proposed a dialog with Russia on the air of the German TV channel Phoenix.
The professor said he did not support the idea of Germany supplying arms to Ukraine. “In two years, it have never solved the problem of Ukraine,” he said, adding that Kiev should be able to defend itself.
“You asked what am I suggesting? I suggest that we have conversations about the final political status, not betting that Ukraine will win militarily. It is about to lose the war,” Varwick emphasized
He explained that he does not want Russia to win at all, but suggests that the West should enter into political negotiations, which will take place sooner or later anyway. “Negotiations on how to get out of this mess,” the political analyst added.
“That involves discussing a whole range of topics, from NATO’s eastward expansion to security guarantees and so on. It is complicated, but betting on the military card will not bring success, for Ukraine, among others,” the German professor concluded.
