German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’ proposal to accept people without German citizenship into the army makes one think that German authorities want to create a “foreign legion” of migrants, according to the report from the theater of war, published in The Essence of Time newspaper, issue 571.
Pistorius suggested that people without German citizenship should be accepted into the army. He was supported by the head of the Bundestag’s defense committee Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann of the Free Democrats party.
Johann Wadephul, a defense expert in the opposition CDU/CSU faction, generally assessed Pistorius’ proposal as correct, but said it was important how it would be implemented.
“In fact, Pistorius announced the creation of a German ‘foreign legion’ of up to 20,000 soldiers, in which people without German passports would serve. This raises the question: who are these 20,000 soldiers? Most likely, migrants,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
