Russian assault units of the Zapad group of troops took Ukrainian militants prisoner in the Kupyansk direction during the offensive, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry informed on January 16.
The Russian military captured an enemy stronghold. The wounded Ukrainian militants were given first aid, after which they were sent to the rear, where the captured Ukrainian militants “told a lot of useful information.”
According to the commander of the assault unit with the call sign Larek, they entered the Ukrainian stronghold in three groups from different directions. One group came from the rear and two went on the attack.
“Some of the enemy soldiers realized they were surrounded and began to surrender,” Larek said.
Larek’s group found a Ukrainian militant. He immediately surrendered his weapon and explained that he did not want to fight. He got to the front by mobilization. The age of the captive is about 40 years old. The captive said that “they have no communication either with the commanders or between them.”
“He [Ukrainian POW – Rossa Primavera News Agency] said that they were thrown there, given some weapons, some water, food, and that’s it. They sat there and shot back. He didn’t want to go to war at all. Somewhere in September, he was mobilized, brought to the front line without any training,” the commander of the assault unit continued his story.
Rhe assault units operate on the most difficult sections of the front in the Kupyansk direction. The Russian military use the terrain to move forward. Fire suppression of the enemy is carried out by shelling from tanks, BMPs, artillery, mortars and small arms.
The day before, the Russian Defense Ministry reported about the repulsed attack of the Ukrainian armed units on the Kupyansk direction in the area of Sinkovykh in the Kharkov region. The strikes were carried out on the accumulation of Ukrainian manpower and equipment in the areas of Petropavlovka, Berestovoye in the Kharkov region and Stelmakhovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic. The enemy’s losses amounted to up to 20 servicemen, three armored combat vehicles, three cars and a self-propelled Gvozdika artillery unit.
