German Leopard-2 tanks in a new modification are not convenient for use on the Ukrainian front for several reasons, including labor-intensive repairs, Bundestag deputy from the faction Union-90 / The Greens, a member of the parliamentary budget committee Sebastian Schäfer said on January 2.
It is specified that the tanks in question are Leopard-2 tanks of the A6 modification, which were recently delivered to the Ukrainian armed units.
Upon the arrival of the equipment in Ukraine, it soon became apparent that several insurmountable circumstances were preventing the effective operation of these tanks. In particular, the vehicles require spare parts unavailable to the Ukrainian armed units.
“Unfortunately, it must be stated that only a very small number of tanks delivered to Ukraine can be used,” Schäfer confirmed.
The Bundestag deputy also noted that if the Ukrainian military tries to fix breakdowns on its own, it only makes the situation worse. In this regard, Schäfer urged German concerns to think about fixing these problems.
