After the Ukrainian counteroffensive has failed, Russia should not rest on its laurels, because it will have to resolve many serious problems while avoiding the political instability Kiev is hoping for, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher, political scientist and theater director Sergey Kurginyan said on December 27 on his author’s broadcast Destiny.
The political scientist noted that there are certain criminal aspects in the Russian reality, that the society is terribly distorted, and that these distortions cannot be quickly repaired. However, he warned against reducing the entire reality to these criminal aspects, because this would be dangerous. Kurginyan drew a parallel with late USSR when such a one-sided approach fueled the processes of the country’s disintegration.
“We understand what kind of a genie is trying to break out from his bottle, don’t we? Do we want him to break out? Is this another caricature of bad Komsomol secretaries and drunk cops?” he said.
Sergey Kurginyan stressed that a positional war is taking place in Ukraine today. And Russia is coping well with many things, mostly due to the imperfect people that we currently have. According to the political scientist, if these people were not doing their job “including by their criminal skills, we would find ourselves in a situation similar to what we had under Gorbachev, i.e. with low oil prices, empty shelves etc.” He added that not everyone at all is criminal and that there are real heroes.
However, the leader of Essence of Time warned against the other extreme, i.e. an opinion that Russia is absolutely fine and that it will perfectly deal with everything.
“But we must not rest on our laurels saying that ‘it is over now, their counteroffensive has failed’ and hoping that the world will leave them without support. Articles by quite authoritative authors have appeared already saying that under Trump Ukraine could receive even greater support,” he explained.
Sergey Kurginyan explained that the more the Ukrainians retreat the more serious weapons they will receive from the West. Meanwhile, Russia has many problems to resolve.
“It is also obvious that were are only at the beginning of our path, that we are strengthening our military space industry and our satellite group insufficiently, that we lose our aircraft because of this, and that key units of the Ukrainian army have been withdrawn for restructuring, and that they will reach a sufficient number of personnel and weapons,” the leader of Essence of Time said.
He added that Russia should get prepared for all that. However, the Ukrainian authorities are getting prepared, too, and, according to the political scientist, they really count upon a destabilization inside Russia.
“The only thing they are really getting prepared for is an explosion of our domestic political stability. This is their primary goal. Therefore, what we practically need to do is to prevent this destabilization,” he said.
