Iran and other BRICS states have started taking measures to abandon the dollar in payments within the association, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani told reporters on December 31.
“We have many missions and joint work planned with other BRICS members within the framework of this organization. One of the most important works has been the dedollarization of trade and economic transactions and financial cooperation,” the minister said.
According to him, the relevant measures are already being taken. The countries of the association expect to strengthen these measures and the early realization of the task of abandoning the dollar.
BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Recently, a number of countries have expressed a desire to join the bloc. Since the beginning of 2024, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Argentina, Egypt and Ethiopia have been invited to join the association. Also, 23 states have expressed their support for joining the union.
