Hungary’s leader calls EU’s expectation of Russia’s defeat a failed plan

03.11.2023, Astana.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Astana on November 3, called the European Union’s expectations of Russia’s defeat and a change of power in the country groundless.

“It has already become very clear that the European strategy that has been pursued so far is a complete failure,” he said.

Orban explained that under the current strategy, the EU finances Kiev and supplies it with weapons, which forces Ukraine to continue fighting.

The politician called this plan very ambitious but a failure. He noted that it was now proposed to follow this plan and continue to allocate money to Ukraine.

Orban emphasized that the EU was in a heated debate over allocating €50 billion to Kiev. He predicted that they would continue for several more months.

At the same time, Hungary is in favor of an alternative plan. It consists in creating a new security infrastructure that would suit both Russia and Ukraine.
