Sweden to hand over fighter jets to Kiev in exchange for NATO membership

06.10.2023, Stockholm.

Stockholm is ready to support the Kiev regime with fighter jets, but only on the condition of Sweden’s admission to NATO, the Swedish government’s press service wrote on October 6.

“The report shall include, among other things, the impact on defense capability, defense economy, other defense activities and planning. A prerequisite for possible support with JAS 39 is that Sweden first becomes a NATO member,” the statement reads.

It is noted that the country’s armed forces should assess the conditions of this support. At the same time, the government recalled that Ukrainian pilots and mechanics had already completed training courses on JAS 39 Gripen aircraft.

After the start of Russia’s special military operation in May 2022, Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO. Finland was accepted into the bloc on April 4, 2023, and on the membership of Sweden still no approval from Turkey. Ankara is blocking the process by demanding Stockholm extradite those accused of terrorism.
