A post-truth society is what religion calls the kingdom of lies, and only the truth can help one withstand it, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on September 22 on the program Conversation with a Sage of the Zvezda radio station.
The conversation about a post-truth society began from the discussion of US ex-president Donald Trump’s statement that the fact that the US fake news media became silent about Ukraine suggested that it was losing.
“When we say that the contemporary society is a post-truth society, and this is a really widely-used international term, what do we actually mean? Who is the master of lies for a religious person? (As for me, I am secular-minded, let me stress this again.) The Devil is,” Kurginyan explained.
“The God is not in the power, but in the truth. What is this about? This is about the cost of the truth, its connection with the God, because the master of lies is the enemy of humanity, and the master of the truth is the God. If the humanity has no need for the truth anymore, what does this mean in principle? ‘This is your hour, the time for the power of darkness,’ Christ said. Then it is the power of lies,” the philosopher added.
In the post-truth world, the are no authorities (because everyone is corrupt), it rules out not only friendship and love, but also business relations, because all these require trust.
Kurginyan reminded about the rules of the diamond market that have been active over centuries. At an auction market, prices change fast, and one has to make his decision in a second. Having made a decision, a broker said only one word “buy,” and later he made this purchase even his decision was wrong and he lost money, because his reputation was more important for him than his money.
“If every communicator knows that he is probably being cheated and that he in his turn has to cheat his counterparts then how will this snowball of lies build any relations in the society?” Kurginyan wondered.
Consequently, there is a problem of the cost of the truth in this snowball of lies.
“We always say that the kingdom of lies and the kingdom of the prince of this world come after certain terrible events take place, and everything begins to writhe and to obey the evil force, while the righteous hold out. Perhaps this has already begun?” Kurginyan said.
