A photo exhibition titled “History belongs to us and it is made by the peoples” dedicated to Chilean politician Salvador Allende was inaugurated in Caracas on September 4, VTV reported.
The exhibition is reportedly timed to coincide with the 53rd anniversary of Allende’s democratic triumph as president of Chile and, in turn, the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état against the Popular Unity government.
The opening ceremony was attended by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil, Chilean Ambassador to Venezuela Jaime Gazmuri and other diplomatic representatives.
“This magnificent exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of the fatal coup d’état against democratically elected President Salvador Allende,” said Gil.
He called the operation against the Chilean people, carried out at the behest of US imperialism, a lamentable event. It is noted that this triggered a process of destabilization directed against the democratic government, which culminated in the coup d’état in Chile on September 11, 1973.
Gil emphasized that fascism is still the main threat to peoples. He said the Chilean scenario was applied to Venezuela, but thanks to the lessons learned, victory was won.
