The bravery, endurance and highest professionalism of senior lieutenant Aleksandr Cherkasov and his brothers-in-arms, who demonstrated sniper shooting from mortars, made it possible to foil an attempt of a massive offensive by the Ukrainian armed units. The press service of the Russian Defense Ministry wrote on August 16.
According to the report, the commander of the mortar battery, senior lieutenant Aleksandr Cherkasov, was carrying out reconnaissance of the positions of one of the Ukrainian units on the front line.
According to the reconnaissance data, the command of the unit was expected to arrive at the location of Ukrainian nationalists for reconnaissance of the positions of Russian troops in order to go on the offensive.
Observing for more than a day from hiding, Aleksandr, with the help of an unmanned aerial vehicle, detected representatives of the Ukrainian command staff at the enemy positions. After conducting additional reconnaissance and establishing the targets’ status, the officer gave his mortar battery the order to attack the position.
An accurate mortar fire destroyed the dugout with the battalion commanders.
Senior Lieutenant Aleksandr Cherkasov was awarded the Order of Courage for bravery and heroism shown in the course of the combat mission.
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had decided to conduct a special military operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for assistance from the heads of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics. The aim of the operation is to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.
In his congratulations on the 77th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, addressed to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics on May 9, Vladimir Putin emphasized that servicemen of the Russian Federation, the DPR and the LPR, like their ancestors, are fighting shoulder to shoulder to liberate their native land from Nazi filth, and expressed confidence in victory, as in 1945.
The Russian leader reminded that it is now the common duty of all those who honor the great memory of the Great Patriotic War to prevent the revival of Nazism, which brought so much suffering to people of different countries.
