Russian defense corporation Rostec demonstrated a modernized assault vest with an increased protection class Obereg at the Army 2023 forum. The press service of the enterprise reported about it on August 15.
“The modified version of the ammunition has impressive characteristics: the outfit in the maximum configuration weighs less than 10 kg, while maintaining high protective properties, withstanding the hit of armor-piercing sniper ammunition,” the report says.
The press service noted that Obereg was developed in several variants. There is an armored vest of Br 4 class with a metal plate, withstanding the hit of 7.62 caliber ammunition. There is an armored vest of Br 5 class with a ceramic plate, which also protects against armor-piercing rounds of 7.62*54 caliber (B-32).
The corporation noted that they strive to provide not only protection for the soldiers, but also to preserve their mobility, not to constrain their movements. Now the heaviest Obereg weighs 9.2 kg and provides anti-fragmentation protection for an area of more than 60 sq. dm.
It is reported that the new assault vests have passed all the tests and were certified. They are made of waterproof materials, and provide protection at temperatures from – 40 °C to + 40 °C.
