Russian Defense Ministry: Strikes delivered against facilities near Odessa, where terrorist attacks have been prepared

18.07.2023, Moscow.

The Russian Armed Forces delivered a retaliatory strike with high-precision weapons on Odessa facilities, where terrorist attacks using unmanned surface vessels have been prepared, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry wrote on July 18.

“The Russian Armed Forces launched a large-scale precision strike on the facilities where terrorist acts using unmanned surface vessels against Russia had been prepared,” the ministry stated.

It is reported that in the area of Nikolaev and Odessa, strikes were carried out on fuel storage facilities with a total volume of about 70,000 tons, which provided Ukrainian military equipment with fuel.

“All targets planned for the strike have been hit. Fires and detonation at the destroyed facilities have been spotted,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lt. Gen. Igor Konashenkov was quoted as saying.

On February 24, 2022, after the appeal of the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics with a request for assistance, Russia launched a military special operation in Donbass and began demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. To neutralize the response of the Ukrainian armed forces, Russian troops launched high-precision strikes on military infrastructure. Military warehouses, military airfields, and troop control points were hit on Ukrainian territory.

The Kiev authorities chose a different strategy. The Ukrainian armed units, together with radical nationalist battalions, are daily shelling peaceful towns in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the liberated territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Strikes are also being carried out on Russian border territory. In addition, Ukrainian military units and nationalist battalions are preventing Ukrainian civilians from leaving the territory where hostilities are taking place, using them as human shields.

On October 10, the Russian Armed Forces launched strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, which, according to the Russian government, the Ukraine’s special services were involved in. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the Ukrainian authorities equated themselves with the most odious terrorist groups by bombing the bridge, and “it is simply impossible to leave such crimes unpunished.”

The Russian Armed Forces have been striking Ukrainian armed units, energy and communications facilities used by the Ukrainian military across Ukraine.
