Le Monde: France may support Ukraine’s NATO membership

21.06.2023, Paris.

France intends to support Ukraine’s NATO membership allegedly to bring the peace talks closer, Le Monde writes on June 21, citing its own sources.

According to the newspaper, French representatives are putting forward this proposal in confidential discussions in NATO.

Ukraine’s bid was discussed at the national defense council. It was suggested that the approval of the bid might become a security guarantee for the Kiev regime, make Russia question its intention to continue the special operation, and increase Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s readiness to launch peace talks.

At the same time, the weekly notes that France cannot support Ukraine’s real NATO membership as long as there is a conflict on its territory.

Ukraine applied for NATO membership in September 2022.
