The essence of Stalin’s era is that the noble anti-bourgeois culture became available to the Soviet people, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on May 13 on the Right to Know program on TVC.
According to the political scientist, in the Soviet period after the experiments of 1920s, it was Stalin that “took that anti-bourgeoisie culture of the nobility and gave it to the people. This is the essence of Stalinism.” This is how the Russian anti-bourgeois approach manifested itself in the Soviet period, Sergey Kurginyan believes.
“This is Ranevskaya and The Cherry Orchard,” the philosopher notes. Regardless of any opinions and the depth of this discussion, Russia in its most profound social and cultural codes has always been specifically anti-bourgeois.
“Be it in some part feudal and in some part socialist, regardless of the way the former was entangled with the latter, it was anti-bourgeois. And to certain extent this worked in favor of the Russian communism and the Soviet Union,” he noted, adding that it is not as simple as either detractors or apologist might believe.
According to the political scientist, if we now want to build our own civilization instead of “another imitative catch-up movement following the Western leadership,” then Russia has to make a special decision to all its historical depth.
“God is my witness that there is something to discuss,” the philosopher concluded.
