Was Russia’s air group shot down to help Zelenskiy negotiate with the Pope?

Russian Air Force planes and helicopters were shot down in the Bryansk region to demonstrate the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed units on the eve of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s meeting with Pope Francis, according to a summary from the theater of war published in The Essence of Time newspaper, no. 533.

On May 13, a Su-34 fighter-bomber, a Su-35 fighter, and two Mi-8 helicopters of the Russian Air Forces were shot down almost simultaneously in the Bryansk region. Video footage posted on social networks shows that at least one helicopter was hit by a missile.

Experts suggested that judging by the missile’s approach to the helicopter, the attack was most likely carried out by air-to-air weapons, that is, from enemy aircraft or helicopters. This means that the air force group of the Russian Air Forces was most likely ambushed.

On the same day, Pope Francis received an audience with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy.

“This was an obvious demonstration of the Ukrainian armed units’s capabilities on the eve of Zelenskiy’s meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican. During talks with the pontiff, Zelenskiy, feeling behind his back the support of London, was rude to the pope and predictably once again rejected the option of a peaceful settlement of the conflict,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
