The Prosecutor General’s Office of Poland, on the basis of information received about the possibility of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder committing a crime, made him the subject of an investigation into the preparation of Russia’s special military operation to protect Donbass, the Polish radio station RMF FM informed on May 11.

“According to documents available to investigators, the German politician may have used positions in the Russian energy sector to subsequently put pressure on EU countries and Ukraine,” the radio station said.

In addition, Polish investigators will examine Gerhard Schröder’s role in preparing Russia’s special military operation to protect Donbass in Ukraine.

Earlier, the former Chancellor of Germany participated in a reception at the Russian embassy in Berlin on the occasion of the anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union over Germany.

Schröder was the head of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1998 to 2005.
