The US government uses ISIL militants (organization banned in Russia) to create the so-called Free Syrian Army, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 10 at a meeting with his counterparts from Iran, Syria and Turkey.
“The goal is obvious – to use these militants against the legitimate armed forces of Syria to destabilize the situation in the country,” he stressed.
The formation is being set up in the vicinity of Syrian Raqqa. It is also planned to include militants from other terrorist organizations, as well as members of local Arab tribes.
Lavrov noted that “our counterparts from defense ministries” had discussed the scheme. They agreed on a plan of joint actions on the issue.
Syria was recently readmitted to the League of Arab States (LAS), from which it was expelled more than 10 years ago. Washington sharply condemned the decision and said that Damascus is not worthy of returning to the LAS.
