Head of LPR: Russia is fighting to prevent Odessa tragedy from happening again

03.05.2023, Lugansk.

The soldiers of Russia and Donbass are fighting, among other things, to prevent tragedies like the one that took place in Odessa 9 years ago from happening again, acting head of the Lugansk People’s Republic Leonid Pasechnik wrote on his Telegram channel on May 2.

Leonid Pasechnik reminded that May 2 is the 9th anniversary of the tragic events in Odessa, when Ukrainian nationalists attacked peaceful protesters, locked them in the House of Trade Unions, and set it on fire killing 48 people.

After 9 years the criminals remain unpunished, and no one even tried to find them… For everyone killed by the fascists, for the triumph of justice to come, and in order to prevent such crimes from happening again – this is what our soldiers are fighting for today, acting head of the LPR stressed.

After the coup d’etat in Ukraine, the activists of the resistance movement set a tent camp on the Kulikovo Pole square. On May 2, 2014, clashes began between the “anti-maidan” activists and the football-related radical nationalist groups. Nationalists arriving from other cities along with local ones forced the “anti-maidan” activists into the House of Trade Unions, locked the exits, and set the building on fire. As a result, 48 people were killed, and 250 were injured.

Kiev refuses to investigate this crime. International organizations have repeatedly criticized the Ukrainian authorities for the lack of any progress in the investigation into the Odessa tragedy. However, those responsible remain unidentified and unpunished.

On February 24, 2022, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that he decided to initiate a special military operation to defend Donbass in response to a request for help by the heads of the LPR and the DPR. The objectives of the operation are the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.

In his celebration speech on the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War addressed to the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics on May 9 Vladimir Putin stressed that the military servicemen of the Russian Federation, the DPR, and the LPR, as their ancestors did before, were fighting side by side to liberate their native land from the Nazi vice, and he expressed confidence that the Victory would come as it did in 1945.

The Russian leader reminded that the common duty of all those who commemorate the Great Patriotic War was to prevent the revival of Nazism that brought so much suffering to people in many countries.
