Thousands of people participated in the traditional May Day procession in Paris. The columns of trade unions started from Place de la République. The final point of the route was Place de la Nation.
The demonstration started at Place de la République. But in fact, there were already some clashes, sometimes very serious ones, when “black blocs” attacked the stand of the French Communist Party and its supporters.
The columns of the unions marched along Boulevard Charonne and along the Père Lachaise cemetery.
At one point, protesters passed by the Voltaire Lyceum, where children of Polish Jewish immigrants and refugees, including Henri Krasucki and Samuel Radzinski, among others, studied.
Krasucki was a 15-year-old Communist and resistance member who lost his brother and survived Auschwitz. The high school has a plaque in his honor.
Since May 1 is an international holiday, it traditionally brings together representatives of parties or movements from different countries.
