Despite shelling, Donetsk residents celebrate May Day

01.05.2023, Donetsk.

The brave citizens of Donetsk celebrated May Day on the city’s main square. On May 1, the residents gathered at the city’s square and laid flowers at the monument to Vladimir Lenin.

Photos from rallies in support of the Donetsk People’s Republic in the fight against fascism from around the world were displayed in the city for the holiday. In addition to the Russian cities of Moscow, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, works from Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, New York and Belgrade were on display.

Boris Litvinov, first secretary of the Donetsk regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, noted that the Party did not deliberately invite the residents to lay flowers at the Lenin monument, besides there were few people in the city.

“Everyone came on their own free will, everyone came because it was his duty to the memory of generations,” said a representative of the Donetsk cell of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

The May Day demonstration in Donetsk was officially canceled due to the intensified shelling of the city.
