The Belarusian authorities intend to increase the grouping of troops on the border with Ukraine, said Deputy Chairman of the Belorussian State Border Committee Igor Pechen in a conversation with BelTA journalists on April 27.
According to him, “our units are provided with everything necessary,” but improvements and equipping of border troops are underway. “We are also planning to increase the number of some units and purchase new weapons,” he added.
According to Pechen, “This was planned earlier, the implementation was conducted last year, continued this year, and will be done in the future.”
The President of Belorussia Aleksandr Lukashenko decided to secure the Ukrainian border on January 23, 2023. At the beginning of 2023, the number of Ukrainian troops on the border with Belarus was 17.2 thousand soldiers. Ukrainian units regularly commit violations at the joint border.
