Large Russian capital did not believe in confrontation with the West, said philosopher, political analyst, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement, Sergey Kurginyan in an interview to the Metametrica channel published on March 25.
Kurginyan shared his memories of a conversation with one of Gazprom’s representatives at a conference in the early 2000s. According to Kurginyan, when this high-ranking Gazprom official learned that the topic of the conference was “Oil and Gas Wars,” he said indignantly:
“You are dividing us from the West! What are you doing? No! There are no wars!”
Kurginyan noted that things even went so far that the conference organizers suggested changing the title of the conference: replace the word “war” with “competition“. But the Gazprom representative was adamant: “No, not competition. Cooperation!”
In response to Kurginyan’s remark that such conferences take place all over the world, that he gave lectures on different types of wars in Delhi, Athens, Beijing and Tel Aviv, the Gazprom representative replied:
“Go ahead and lecture about it more often in Athens, Delhi, or, better yet, in Tel Aviv, but don’t do it here on our territory.”
According to the political scientist, this man, who wouldn’t even let himself think of an oil and gas war with the West, is still in the Gazprom management.
“And I have a simple question for this man: what about the Nord Stream? I guess it’s free market competition… Cooperation? (…) And if they blew it up there, why would they not blow something up in the Mediterranean tomorrow?” – concluded the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
