Kurginyan tells about profound demilitarization of the army after the cold war

17.03.2023, Moscow, Russia.

After the defeat in the cold war, the Russian army underwent a demilitarization of its essence, said political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on on the program Conversation with a Sage on March 10 on the Zvezda radio station.

Kurginyan noted that the Russian army did not prepare at all for the war it is waging now, i.e. a medium-scale conventional war. Over the post-Soviet period, the army suffered “optimization” along with everything else. Inside this optimization, according to the political scientist, “there was something produced by the very defeat in the cold war.”

This was an army after defeat! It was a substantial demilitarization – not like the Rhineland that took place after World War One etc. An profound demilitarization of its essence,” the leader of Essence of Time stressed.

Kurginyan explained that the West, having won in the cold war and seeking to maintain its dominance, imposed certain kind of reality on Russia, which destroys young active people capable of becoming leaders that people would follow.

It seeks to destroy this active group through drugs, alcohol, immorality, vice, cynicism, social atomization, depression, crisis hotspots, crime, the political scientist stressed.

Kurginyan pointed out the multi-aspect nature of this process. He noted that “many things were forced on the army inside all this.” Firstly, the army has to recruit members of the society that formed after the country disintegrated. Secondly, building a “normal” country with a “normal” army was alleged to be a positive outcome of the disintegration of the country.

But a normal country is a medium-sized Western country with minor defense expenses, without any expectation that it would have to seriously fight anyone,” Kurginyan explained the situation imposed on our country and our army in the post-Soviet period.

Now, after one year of the SMO, it has become clear that Russia, in order to survive, has to be not “normal,” but great, and that the Russian army has to be an army of a great country.
