International recognition is a key strategic task for Transnistria, Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky said at a press conference on January 17, according to the press service of the leader of the state.
“The state leader voiced the basic elements of the eight-year Transnistrian Development Strategy: strengthening Transnistrian independence with a focus on gaining international recognition and implementing the results of the 2006 referendum,” the press release said.
In addition, the Transnistrian president said that the priority of the state policy is forming the community “Transnistrian people,” which includes many nationalities, cultures and languages.
In 2006, a referendum was held in Transnistria, in which the republic’s residents, by an overwhelming majority of votes, determined the way of the republic’s development: gaining independence with subsequent unification with Russia.
