The German government approved €8.35 billion in arms deals between January 1 and December 22, 2022, the German magazine Manager Magazin reported on December 27.
A response from the German Federal Ministry of Economics to a request by Sevim Dağdelen, a member of the Left Party faction in the Bundestag, said that Germany had approved arms exports worth at least €8.35 billion in 2022.
This is the second-highest figure in German history. In 2021, Germany exported even more arms for a record €9.35 billion.
Apart from Ukraine, the Netherlands, the United States, the United Kingdom and Hungary were the main buyers of German arms. However, most of the weapons Germany supplied to Ukraine. The German authorities allowed to send Kiev weapons worth €2.24 billion.
Ukraine received from the German government 30 Gepard self-propelled air defense systems, 14 self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000, 5 multiple rocket launchers and one Iris-T air defense system.
Germany’s ban on arms deliveries to the conflict zones was lifted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on February 27, 2022. Scholz then announced a turning point in German policy, the rejection of principles that Germany had been adhering to for decades.
