Europe must achieve greater autonomy from the United States, including within the framework of NATO, French President Emmanuel Macron said, Le Monde newspaper reported on December 22.
Speaking about Europe’s vulnerability to Russia and its heavy dependence on the US revealed by the situation in Ukraine, the French leader said:
“Europe must protect itself. Europe must get technological autonomy from the United States, and also be autonomous militarily, to create a real European backbone in NATO. This is not an alternative project”.
