Russia and India will switch to national currencies in mutual trade, director of the second department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov said, RIA Novosti reported on December 21.
“We are fundamentally moving away from the dollar and the euro, we need to switch to national currencies,” Kabulov said.
According to him, for the full transition, it is necessary to settle the imbalance in trade transactions, as India so far buys more goods from Russia than it sells to it, and the corresponding difference is more fivefold.
“Specialists are working on this, searching for a reasonable compromise,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, Indian authorities allowed the use of the national currency in international trade payments. At the same time, India plans to start using rupees in mutual payments with Russia this year.
